"I remember our numerous brief talks during various conferences and academic meetings. Most significant of all is during IFCC WorldLab 2017 in Durban. Prof Morris was chair of the Award Committee and President-elect of IFCC, and I was nominated for the IFCC Young Investigator Award. A day before the award ceremony, in a private conversation, he admired my works and achievements. He inspired me and gave me some great advice. That was such a motivation for me to build up my scientific and academic career. Moments with him during the official award ceremony are indelible and will live in my memories forever. Although he is not with us now, his contributions to laboratory medicine will always be remembered."

"IFCC Worldlab 2017 in October 2017 was a historic and special event because it was the first time the event was held in South Africa and it was the last IFCC Worldlab that Professor Morris would attend. Members of the South African Association for Clinical Biochemistry (SAACB) Executive have fond memories of IFCC Worldlab2017 especially because we got to spend lots of time with Howard Morris and his wife Helen Martin. Howard graced the event with characteristic charm and these are evident in the photos. Howard also attended the International Congress of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine in Durban. We will sadly miss our southern hemisphere colleague who gave us a lot of support and inspired us in our individual IFCC roles. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go to Professor Helen Martin and the family of Professor Howard Morris in this difficult time. Tahir Pillay, Chair, IFCC Communications and Publication Division (CPD) President, South African Association for Clinical Biochemistry"
